Eminent glaciologist Professor Bryn Hubbard of the Centre for Glaciology at Aberystwyth University led a team of researchers to Nepal in 2025 to collect cores and televiewer and thermistor data from the upper reaches of the Khumbu Glacier, the highest in the world.
This project “Losing their Cool” is funded by the NERC “Pushing the Frontiers” scheme. A Robertson Geo High Resolution Optical Televiewer (Hi-OPTV)® with a lightweight portable system based on the Mini Winch, was deployed by the team for this project.
Robertson Geo are proud to have provided technology to Aberystwyth University for crucial glacial research since 2001. The equipment has seen action in the Arctic, Antarctic and on the high glaciers of the Andes and Himalayas, performing flawlessly in the adverse conditions.
In addition to the equipment used in Nepal, Robertson Geo have also supplied an RGeo-eye® Downhole Camera, Temperature Conductivity, Electric Log and Full Waveform Triple Sonic probes and winches for deeper boreholes. All the equipment supplied is of standard specification, needing no modification to withstand the freezing temperatures.
