PS Logger® OWF Projects: Lillebælt Syd and Jammerland Bugt, Denmark

Robertson Geo Services (RGS) successfully completed a 13-borehole offshore wind farm project onboard the Sound Prospector jack-up vessel for Geo Subsurface Expertise.

The geotechnical surveys were part of the site characterisation for two wind farms located in the Lillebælt Strait, and Jammerland Bugt, Denmark. Lillebælt Syd is a 165 MW offshore wind farm being built in the Little Belt strait near Sønderborg, Denmark, with a planned operational start in 2029. The OWF will consist of 11 turbines and is expected to power approximately 148,000 European households. Jammerland Bugt OWF plans to install 16 wind turbines for a capacity of 240MW and should be operational in 2029.

Deploying a PS Logger® probe and 2,000m Winch, high-quality seismic data was recorded at 1m intervals, producing compressional wave (P) and shear wave (S) velocity profiles. These form a vital part of the overall geotechnical data package by identifying lithological boundaries within the borehole and contributing to the derivation of small strain moduli. The profiles may also be used for converting time to depth for areal seismic data, collected from geophysical surveys, to optimise ground models.

Operations were successfully completed under variable sea and weather conditions, demonstrating the robustness of Robertson Geo’s equipment and RGS data acquisition methods.
