Lithium battery usage is expanding for a wide range of technology and especially for more environmentally friendly electric vehicles. The global demand for lithium is therefore increasing rapidly.
This project was exploring the viability of extracting lithium in solution from water deep underground.
A High Resolution Optical Televiewer (Hi-OPTV)® and a Temperature Conductivity probe were run to identify zones of interest. Then a large suite of probes was run including 3-Arm Caliper, to identify any fractures or cavities, Electric Log, to measure formation resistivity, Temperature Pressure probe, to measure fluid temperature and pressure at depth, High Resolution Acoustic Televiewer (HRAT)® and Impeller Flowmeter to identify areas of up or downhole flow.
Data pertaining to the formation and groundwater was collected, processed on site and sent to the client daily. This rapid turnaround of data enabled decisions to be made promptly as to which depths pressurised fluid samples should be collected for subsequent laboratory analysis.
